Cairo, Sha'ban 10, 1435, Jun 8, 2014, SPA -- Former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sissi was sworn in Sunday as Egypt's president, news agencies reported. "I swear by God Almighty to preserve the republican system, respect the constitution and law, and to fully care for the interests of the people, and to maintain the independence and territorial integrity of the nation," al-Sissi said. He took the oath at the Supreme Constitutional Court's headquarters in southern Cairo. The ceremony was attended by interim president Adly Mansour; judges of the court; members of the cabinet; and top Muslim cleric Ahmedal-Tayeb, head of the Al-Azhar Sunni Muslim institution After taking the oath of office, al-Sissi will get a 21-gun salute, which will be followed by the playing of the national anthem in front of the Ittihadiya presidential palace.
