New Delhi, Ramadan 5, 1435, Jul 3, 2014, SPA -- More bodies have been recovered from the rubble of a collapsed building in India's southern city of Chennai, taking the death toll to 61, with rescue operations still under way Thursday. The unfinished 11-storey building caved in on Saturday, trapping mostly construction workers who had gathered in the building to collect their pay, dpa reported. "Six more bodies were recovered in operations since Thursday morning," Chennai assistant commissioner of police Karuna Sagar said, adding that the rescue work would continue overnight. "The rescue operation is in its last stage as workers are now clearing the debris of the first floor," he added. The cause of the accident, which occurred during heavy rain, is not yet clear. State chief minister J Jayalalithaa has ordered an investigation, set to be led by a retired judge. Earlier, the minister said the building appeared to have serious structural defects and was not in compliance with approved plans. Five people including the building contractor were arrested and charged with criminal negligence. -- SPA 17:55 LOCAL TIME 14:55 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
