Addis Ababa, Sha'ban 10, 1435, Jun 8, 2014, SPA -- At least 34 people were killed and 27 injured in eastern Congo in an attack that appeared to be part of an ethnic conflict over cattle, news reports said Sunday, according to dpa. The attackers used guns and knives to kill some of their victims in the village of Mutarule in South Kivu province. Many of the victims were killed in a church, and some of the villagers were set on fire. Nine children were among the victims , Radio France Internationale reported, citing government officials. The attack was believed to have been in revenge for a cattle theft. All the victims were members of the Bafuliru ethnic group, which has long been in conflict with the Barundi, the BBC reported. "It is simply not imaginable that such a thing could happen today," Interior Minister Jean-Julien Miruho said. --SPA 11:13 LOCAL TIME 08:13 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
