Washington, Sha'ban 21, 1435, Jun 19, 2014, SPA -- The United States on Wednesday welcomed Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s announcement of a cease-fire plan for government troops in the East of the country. “We certainly welcome President Poroshenko’s announcement that Ukraine would implement a cease-fire as a first step of a peace plan,” State Department spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki told reporters. The move comes after a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin which allegedly discussed a cease-fire. “President Poroshenko reiterated that amnesty would be offered to those who lay down arms voluntarily and who are not guilty of capital crimes. He also committed to providing a safe corridor for Russian fighters to return to Russia,” Psaki said. “He has been clear that he will continue discussions about decentralization and constitutional reform to also address legitimate concerns,” Psaki added. --SPA 11:28 LOCAL TIME 08:28 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
