Cape Town, Sha'ban 20, 1435, Jun 18, 2014, SPA -- More than 330 people have been killed since March by the Ebola virus, which is spreading across West Africa, the World Health Organization's office in Brazzaville said Wednesday, according to dpa. In the past seven days, 14 deaths and 47 new cases have been reported across the region. In Guinea, where the outbreak started three months ago, 264 people have died of Ebola and 398 further cases have been reported. In neighbouring Sierra Leone, which shut its borders last week to Guinea and Liberia in a bid to halt the spread of the virus, 97 infections and 49 deaths were confirmed, according to the WHO. In Liberia, 24 deaths and 33 cases have been reported. Ebola, which has a fatality rate of 90 per cent, is one of the most contagious viral diseases known and is transmitted through blood, body fluids or close contact with infected people. --SPA 19:09 LOCAL TIME 16:09 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
