Washington, December 2, 2018, SPA -- The number of people missing in northern California's Camp Fire, the worst wildfire on record to hit the US West Coast region, has fallen dramatically from previous estimates. Some 88 people have died in the blaze, which broke out on November 8 and has since destroyed nearly 14,000 homes and more than 62,000 hectares of land, dpa reported. Twenty-five people were still unaccounted for, the Butte County sheriff's department said. The figure was double that two days ago. More than 200 were considered missing last week. Nearly half of the fatalities had been positively identified, the statement issued overnight said. The local authorities had been working hard in recent days to check the list of those reported missing by relatives and friends. The return of residents to their homes has been delayed by heavy rains and floods. --SPA 21:02 LOCAL TIME 18:02 GMT 0026 www.spa.gov.sa/w798080
