KSrelief Center Takes Part, in Int'l Gathering on Challenges facing Humanitarian Action, in Yemen

New York, Muharram 12, 1440, September 22, 2018, SPA -- A delegation from King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) headed by the Center's spokesman, Dr. Samer Al-Jatili, has taken part, in a conference on "Challenges of Political Solution, Humanitarian Action, Reconstruction and Stability" organized by the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the United Nations, with the participation of representatives of the 19 states, sponsoring the political process, in Yemen, and representatives of international and regional organizations concerned with humanitarian affairs. Al-Jatili said that one of the most important challenges facing the humanitarian work, in Yemen, is the incidents of seizing and looting by the Houthi armed militias on ships, relief convoys and humanitarian aid trucks, in addition, to attacks on international organizations and workers, as happened, in Sana'a, Taiz, Hajja, Hodeida, to name a few, for example. He also pointed out to the dire humanitarian situation, in Yemen, before 2014, according to UN reports. Yemen was suffering from poor infrastructure, poor health services and a high humanitarian need for food, health care and malnutrition, in children, he explained, describing how Houthi militias disrupted humanitarian efforts, targeted residential neighborhoods, humanitarian personnel, used human shields, in armed conflicts for an internationally prohibited crime, and used anti-aircraft weapons, in civilian areas. --SPA 19:43 LOCAL TIME 16:43 GMT 0023 www.spa.gov.sa/w753656
