Because border crossings to India have been closed for the past two weeks following political protests, building materials for shelters could not be brought to those in need, a spokeswoman for Malteser International said. According to dpa, some 9,000 people were killed and millions more left homeless after the magnitude-7.8 earthquake had rocked the region in April.
