IMF Managing Director Calls for Urgent Action for Tackling Recovery from COVID-19

Washington, July 11, 2021, SPA -- The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, stressed that with a dangerous wave of highly contagious variables now making its way across the world, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic remains the main threat facing the world, calling for urgent measures to be taken to address the recovery from Covid-19 epidemic. She said, in a press statement at the conclusion of the meeting of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, held in Italy yesterday, that the main aspects in which urgent measures must be taken to address the recovery are accelerating vaccinations to cover at least 40% of the population in each country by the end of 2021 and 60% by mid-2022 She explained that one of the main areas in which urgent measures must be taken to address recovery is the implementation of sound macroeconomic policies because of their pivotal role in securing recovery, in addition to intensifying support for weak countries. --SPA 02:19 LOCAL TIME 23:19 GMT 0003 www.spa.gov.sa/w1583373
