Washington, Muharram 2, 1440, Sep 12, 2018, SPA -- U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Wednesday that the United States' administration has certified to the U.S. Congress that coalition partners, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), are acting to reduce risks to civilians from their military operations in Yemen. In a statement, Pompeo said that the two countries are undertaking demonstrable actions to reduce the risk of harm to civilians and civilian infrastructure resulting from military operations of these governments. "Pursuant to Section 1290 of the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 (NDAA), I certified to Congress yesterday that the governments of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates are undertaking demonstrable actions to reduce the risk of harm to civilians and civilian infrastructure resulting from military operations of these governments," he said, adding that the President Trump administration “ clearly stated that ending the conflict in Yemen is a national security priority. "We will continue to work closely with the Saudi-led coalition to ensure Saudi Arabia and the UAE maintain support for U.N.- led efforts to end the civil war in Yemen, allow unimpeded access for the delivery of commercial and humanitarian support through as many avenues as possible, and undertake actions that mitigate the impact of the conflict on civilians and civilian infrastructure,” the statement added. --SPA 19:25 LOCAL TIME 16:25 GMT 0037 www.spa.gov.sa/w748202
