Ken Cohen, Exxon Mobil's vice president of public and government affairs, confirmed that the company was being investigated by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, but did not elaborate on the content of the request. "It's a broad subpoena dealing with the subject of our involvement in climate change," Cohen told reporters. "We're still reading through it, at the present time." The subpoena was part of an investigation whether the oil company had deliberately misled the public or investors about climate change risks, The New York Times reported, citing unnamed sources. The inquiry, which covers the period since the 1970s, aims to determine whether Exxon Mobil had funded groups opposing climate science and had misled investors about the financial risks of investing in fossil fuels, according to the paper. Cohen defended his company's record on supporting climate science.
