The suspected killers were shot dead during a gun battle with the police in Eastern Cape province on Friday evening, dpa quoted a special police unit for organized crime as saying. Ten suspects were arrested, while others managed to escape, Hangwani Mulaudzi, a spokesman for South Africa's Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, said. One policeman was injured during the operation. Unknown assailants had attacked a rural police station in the village of Ngcobo and shot dead five police officers and a retired soldier on Wednesday.
