Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah, Saudi Arabia, Nov. 01, 2021, SPA -- Saudi Arabia was unanimously elected today as member of the Standardization Management Council (SMC) for the 2022-2024 term and for the Management of the Accreditation Council (MAC) for 2022-2024 term, affiliates of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), at elections held in this holy city of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah as part of the 22nd meeting of the Institute's Board of Directors. Saudi Arabia will continue its active participation in the activities of the Institute’s specialized councils till 2024, in addition to its presidency of the Board of Directors, which lasts until the end of this year. SMIIC aims to activate cooperation and joint Islamic action in standardization activities to enhance economic and industrial growth and maximize the benefit of intra-trade among member states. The institute is also working on developing an integrative framework that consolidates cooperation and integration to achieve the interests of member states, in addition to developing the infrastructure system for standardization and quality activities in Islamic countries, by activating the role of the specialized technical work committees in the institute.
