Geneva, July 14, 2020, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's candidate for the post of Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Advisor at the Royal Court Mohammed bin Mazyad Al-Tuwaijiri arrived here today, to take part in the meetings of the WTO general council, set to start on Wednesday. There are 8 candidates vying for succeeding the current Brazilian Director General of the WTO Roberto Azevêdo, who decided to terminate his tenure, earlier, on August 1, a full year prior to his term. Al-Tuwaijiri is set to present his vision and working program before the representatives of the WTO member states and answer their questions, on Friday, along with other candidates. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced on July 7, nominating Al-Tuwaijiri to the post, as the Kingdom mission to WTO asserted in a note that due to the Kingdom great belief in the multi-partite commercial system and the vital role of the WTO, in such a system, it underscores the significance of making it stronger to consolidate an overture based on multi-partite commercial system rules. It also reasserted understanding the pivotal role played by the WTO in formulating as well as enforcing international trade rules and developing international economy and trade.
