Tokyo, Jumada I 23, 1439, Feb 9, 2018, SPA -- Officials were cleaning up after an oil slick believed to be from a sunken Iranian tanker reached southern Japanese islands, the local government said Thursday. Clumps of oil were found washed up on the shores of at least 10 islands, including Amami-Oshima and Yaku islands, the Kagoshima prefectural government said. A green turtle was found dead as oil reached the coast of Amami-Oshima Island, dpa quoted local government officials as saying. The Japanese Coast Guard said it had not so far been able to link the oil spill after the fatal tanker collision in early January with the pollution detected on the shores of the islands. The Sanchi oil tanker collided with Hong Kong freighter CF Crystal on January 6. Thirty Iranian and two Bangladeshi crew members were declared dead, while another 21 crew members were rescued. --SPA 10:58 LOCAL TIME 07:58 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w607169
