Saudi Arabia and Iran have agreed to hold bilateral meeting soon in order to pave the way for the reopening of the embassies and consulates between the two countries. The agreement was reached during a phone call made by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Wednesday. At the outset of their phone conversation, the ministers exchanged greetings on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia and Iran announced on March 10 the resumption of diplomatic relations that was severed in 2016. The agreement, brokered by China, was signed by Saudi Minister of State, Member of the Cabinet and National Security Advisor Musaed Al-Aiban and Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani. The agreement includes a deal to reopen their embassies and missions within two months. It also included an affirmation of respect for the sovereignty of states and the non-interference in the internal affairs of states.
