A man has been charged with attempted murder after a delivery driver was hit by his own stolen van and left fighting for his life. Christopher Elgifari, 31, is alleged to have stolen a white van from the 54-year-old victim on Tuesday in Cardiff, south Wales. The delivery driver, who had been working in Laytonia Avenue in the Cathays district of the city, remains in critical condition in hospital. His family are being supported by specialist officers, police said. Police were called to reports of an accident in nearby North Road at around 12.49pm. The victim was rushed to Cardiff’s University Hospital of Wales for treatment. Elgifari, from Llanrumney in the east of the city, will appear at Cardiff magistrates court on Friday. A statement from the police said: “A 54-year-old man remains in a critical condition at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. “His family has been updated, and they continue to be supported by specialist officers. Detectives are continuing with witness, house to house and CCTV enquiries.” A 39-year-old man was previously arrested in connection with the incident and a white van has since been seized. South Wales police detectives have appealed for anyone who witnessed or has footage of a white Renault Trafic van being driven in the area of Laytonia Avenue and North Road between 12.45pm and 12.50pm. Anyone with information is asked to contact South Wales police online or through 101, quoting occurrence number 2300099389.
