Saudi Arabia’s Public Prosecution has announced that children are prohibited from participating in the recreational activities that endanger their safety and health. This in accordance with Article 13 of the Kingdom’s Child Protection Law. The Public Prosecution’s announcement came during issuing a statement regarding the rights and guarantees assigned to children if they participate in recreational activities. Workers at the recreational places must be trained on ways to deal with accidents resulting from the use of children’s games and playgrounds, the Public Prosecution said. It has added that they also should be trained on how to deal with the security and safety requirements in these places by taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the child. The Public Prosecution also published an info-graphic stating that it is the entity that undertakes the investigation and prosecution of crimes that arise from violations of the provisions of this law and the filing of lawsuit before the competent court. As for the executive regulations of the Child Protection Law, the recreational places must provide safety belts on the seats of the swings and the other games when needed in order to avoid children from falling. It has stated that the children’s games must be supported with all safety accessories, such as additional wheels on the sides of bicycles, as well as a helmet, and protection for knees and elbows. Every entertainment venue shall place a board near each game that clarifies its suitability for children, their age and capabilities, in addition to the specific number that children can use the game at one time, as well as explaining the way to play. The Public Prosecution said that those who are renting children’s bicycles are not permissible to rent them to children under 12 years old, otherwise they will be the ones who are responsible if the child was harmed, or even causes danger or harm to others. Children who are under 12 years old are not allowed to drive the bicycles on the public road, the Public Prosecution warned, noting that the child’ parents, guardians or the people who take care of them are responsible for the resulting damages from this act.
