AL-JOUF: The first edition of the Land of Lavender Festival, which is organized by the Ministry of Culture, supported by the Quality of Life Program and is one of the initiatives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 plan, began on Friday night. The 15-day event is taking place in the cities of Sakaka and Dumat Al-Jandal in Al-Jouf region, and celebrates the culture and heritage of the area. Visitors were given necklaces of lavender and served Saudi coffee as they watched video presentations about the customs and traditions of the region. Artistic items made of lavender were displayed, while the roads leading to and from the festival boasted light shows and artwork painted on the walls and tunnels. A parade of performing arts took place in Dumat Al-Jandal. Theaters featured musical performances filled with the sounds of flutes, drums and tambourines. Visitors could also attend workshops focusing on products made from lavender, such as soap and baked goods, in addition to learning the proper way to grow it. Those attending could also enjoy the lavender garden cafe, picnic area, and market.
