RIYADH: Saudi authorities have arrested several people across the country for drug-related offenses in recent days. The General Directorate for Narcotics Control arrested a citizen in the Tabuk region for attempting to sell 8,000 tablets of narcotic amphetamine. Border Guard land patrols in the Jazan region thwarted an attempt to smuggle 188 kg of the narcotic qat. Police in Jazan’s Al-Dair governorate arrested seven Yemenis and Saudi citizens for selling 149 kg of qat. The General Directorate for Narcotics Control arrested three Yemeni residents in the Asir region for selling 19 kg of hashish. Firearms and live ammunition were also seized. Saudi officials recently seized more than 1.2 million amphetamine pills hidden in a beehive consignment and a vehicle in Madinah. Seven people, including four Egyptian residents and three citizens, were arrested. Preliminary legal procedures have been completed and all seized narcotics handed over to the authorities. All those arrested have been referred to the Public Prosecution. Members of the public can report suspected smuggling or other violations in strict confidence via email — [email protected] — or through the designated number for security reports, 1910 from within the country, or +966114208417 from overseas. A financial reward is offered if the information leads to the discovery of a crime.
