The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has requested Hajj pilgrims to prioritize the preservation and protection of the environment while performing rituals. This is to ensure that the Holy Sites remain clean and free from pollution. The Ministry has also provided environmental guidelines and directives for adopting sound environmental behavior and practices, which should be followed by all pilgrims. As part of its awareness campaign launched during the current Hajj season, the Ministry has emphasized the importance of reusing equipment and materials used during the rituals, which greatly reduces waste production. The pilgrims have been encouraged to use frequently used products and tools for this purpose. Furthermore, the Ministry has identified simple and easy steps that can enable pilgrims to reduce waste production by focusing on purchasing environmentally friendly products that can be used more than once. Additionally, products made from recyclable materials should be preferred. Recycling can also be practiced by disposing of the Ihram cloth properly instead of throwing them in public places. This would help in preserving the environment and the sanctity of Holy Sites, and reduce waste production. — SPA
