The Makkah Municipality has prepared more than 30,000 commercial and food outlets in Makkah to serve the pilgrims after Hajj. Of these about 18,500 are commercial stores, 7,109 barber shops, 2,590 grocery stores, and 1,914 restaurants and popular food stores. All the sub-municipalities in Makkah have intensified field inspections and increased the number of teams. The inspection teams are deployed in different locations and residential neighborhoods where Hajj pilgrims are present in high numbers in order to follow up on the works related to the license, compliance, and monitoring of the markets to ensure food safety. The municipality has clarified that all the facilities, serving places and commercial markets are fully ready. While monitoring markets, restaurants and barber shops, the field teams confront any negative phenomena including street vendors with the participation of a number of government and security agencies. This is being implemented to ensure all possible comfort for the Hajj pilgrims and provide them with the best municipal services. The municipality has also indicated that it formed a team to supervise the catering establishments and the warehouses to follow up on their adherence to the regulations. It also follows up the application of municipal penalties and fines against violators, which include the confiscation and destruction of materials not suitable for human consumption, as well as the closure of shops that do not meet the health requirements related to food safety.
