Saudi Arabia on Sunday summoned Sweden"s envoy to Riyadh to inform her that the Kingdom unequivocally rejects the burning of a copy of the Qur"an by an extremist outside a mosque in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. In a press statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry called for a halt to any act that runs counter to the international efforts to promote values of tolerance and moderation. On Thursday, the ministry condemned the Qur"an burning, stressing that "these hateful and repeated acts cannot be accepted with any justification, as they clearly incite hatred, exclusion, and racism, and directly contradict international efforts seeking to spread the values of tolerance, moderation, and rejection of extremism, and undermine the necessary mutual respect for relations between peoples and states". — SG
