Saudi Arabia joins global effort to combat synthetic drug menace

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia recently participated in the virtual ministerial meeting announcing the launch of the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats. Deputy Minister for International Multilateral Affairs Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi represented the Kingdom in the meeting on behalf of Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Ministry tweeted on Saturday. In his speech at the meeting, Al-Rassi stressed the importance of strengthening international efforts to tackle the smuggling and manufacture of drugs and highlighted the dangers they pose to society as a whole. According to the White House website, the coalition aims to “expedite actions against illegal synthetic drugs.” It will “employ coordinated strategies to prevent illicit drug production, identify emerging drug threats, disrupt trafficking, combat illicit financial activities, and address the impacts on public safety and public health.”
