EU welcomes the unloading of oil from Safer tanker

The EU welcomed the complete unloading of crude oil from the Safer tanker in the Red Sea waters off the coast of Yemen. Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Peter Stano said in a statement in Brussels that the successful transfer of an estimated 1.14 million barrels of light crude oil was essential to avert an imminent environmental catastrophe in Yemen and the Red Sea. He explained that the EU provided 3 million euros to support the plan coordinated by the UN to deal with the environmental threat posed by the tanker in the Red Sea. In Doha, the State of Qatar welcomed the complete unloading of crude oil from Safer reservoir, off Yemen"s Red Sea coast. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement today, expressing Qatar"s appreciation of the efforts of the UN and other international partners in addressing one of the most pressing environmental issues, thus preventing oil spillage from the reservoir in the Red Sea waters. Qatar also stressed full readiness to support all international efforts aimed at building a safer and more sustainable future for everybody in the world. In Muscat, the Sultanate of Oman welcomed the UN announcement that oil from the Safer reservoir off the coast of Yemen, in the Red Sea, has been safely unloaded. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement, carried by the Omani News Agency Saturday, saying that the Sultanate of Oman appreciates the efforts of the UN and others in the international community, as well as the cooperation of Yemeni parties, which facilitated this operation that helps avoid an environmental disaster in the Red Sea. In Amman, the Jordanian government too welcomed the UN announcement that oil from the Safer reservoir in the Red Sea has been safely unloaded. The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation for the efforts of the UN and of donor countries, which ensured the financial support necessary to complete this operation, thus avoiding an environmental disaster in the Red Sea, citing the support provided by Yemeni authorities to facilitate this operation. — SPA
