RIYADH: The Buraidah Date Festival is becoming a popular starting point for young people’s commercial endeavors, with the fruit harvest seasons in Saudi Arabia’s Qassim region providing an ideal opportunity to boost trade. Young traders can be seen selling watermelons, grapes, vegetables and dates during their respective growing seasons. The exhibition attracts more than 1,200 visitors each day. Abdulmohsen Al-Bayibi said that he has moved between agricultural commerce activities since graduating from high school, and is now in the date business. “Buying and selling dates has a greater profit margin,” he said. “The date season is long and they can be sold all year long, as they are either frozen or stored. Dates are also sold during the month of Ramadan.” Al-Bayibi said that young people looking to get into the business “need to be determined, and willing to work and show up at the market at dawn, along with a little capital.”
