Al-Ettifaq club officially announced on Sunday the signing of Dutch international midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who is joining the Saudi club from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Wijnaldum, 32 years old, began his football journey in the youth ranks of Feyenoord before moving up to the senior team. He later ventured to PSV Eindhoven and eventually made his mark in English football, playing for clubs such as Newcastle United and Liverpool. In 2021, Paris Saint-Germain acquired the Dutch midfielder before loaning him out to AS Roma in Italy, with his loan spell concluding in the current summer transfer window. Wijnaldum has been a prominent figure in the Netherlands national team since 2011, participating in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Unfortunately, he missed the most recent edition of the tournament due to injury but featured in the UEFA Euro 2020 competition. Throughout his career, Wijnaldum has clinched numerous titles with the clubs he has represented, with highlights including UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup victories. The acquisition of Wijnaldum marks Al-Ettifaq"s fourth foreign signing, following the additions of Scottish player Jack Hendry, Frenchman Moussa Dembélé, and Englishman Jordan Henderson to the squad.
