Robert Lewandowski scored twice as Barcelona fought back after conceding an early goal to beat lowly Alavés 2-1 in La Liga on Sunday. Alavés’s 19-year-old striker Samu Omorodion shocked Barça when he opened the scoring 18 seconds after kick-off with a close-range strike after a quick counterattack and the hosts were lucky to go in at the break only one goal down. Alavés missed several chances, including a close-range effort from Omorodion in the 30th minute. However, Barça got back on top in the second half and Lewandowski equalised with a towering header in the 52nd minute from a Jules Koundé cross from the right touchline. In the 77th minute, the Alavés defender Abdelkabir Abqar fouled Raphinha inside the box and Lewandowski scored the winner from the spot with a tidy penalty high into the middle of the goal. Barça are third on 30 points, two behind Real Madrid in second and four behind surprise leaders Girona. Antoine Griezmann and Samuel Lino struck late in the second half as Atlético Madrid came from behind to beat Villarreal 3-1 in the Spanish capita. Struggling Villarreal, who sacked manager José Rojo ‘Pacheta’ on Friday, grabbed an early lead when Gerard Moreno netted a first-time strike on the rebound in the 20th minute. But the hosts, the only team in La Liga to have won all of their home games this season, equalised in added time before the break with a close-range strike by Axel Witsel. Atlético got back on top in the second half but did not find the net again until the 80th minute, when Griezmann fired home from close range from a Pablo Barrios cross. Five minutes later, the substitute Lino scored with a fine individual effort, securing the points with a tidy finish. With a game in hand, Atlético are fourth in the La Liga on 28 points. Internazionale reclaimed top spot in Serie A with a 2-0 home win over Frosinone on Sunday, thanks to a long-range strike from Federico Dimarco and a penalty by Hakan Calhanoglu. The victory sent Internazionale back to the summit with 31 points, two clear of Juventus in second place. Frosinone are 12th with 15 points. Lazio and Roma played out a 0-0 draw as both sides missed opportunities in a fiery derby clash that produced a flurry of yellow cards at the Stadio Olimpico. Lazio had the best chance following Roma’s aggressive start, with Luis Alberto unleashing a powerful shot from outside the area that struck the woodwork midway through the first half. Roma climb one place to seventh on 18 points, three points off the top four, while Lazio are 10th with 17. There were eight yellow cards, including one shown to the Lazio coach, Maurizio Sarri, for dissent. A last-gasp goal by Empoli midfielder Viktor Kovalenko condemned champions Napoli to a 1-0 home loss as they squandered the chance to move up to third. Ukrainian Kovalenko scored the winner in stoppage time, netting from inside the area as the ball bounced in off the far post. In the Bundesliga unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen thundered past embattled Union Berlin 4-0 on Sunday to extend their winning run to 12 matches across all competitions and move back to the top with a two-point advantage over Bayern Munich. In-form Alejandro Grimaldo rifled in from outside the box in the 23rd minute to put the hosts in front, with Leverkusen missing several more chances in a strong first half. Odilon Kossounou headed in another goal in the 57th minute before Jonathan Tah volleyed in at the far post in the 73rd to put the game to bed. The hosts were not yet done and substitutes Amine Adli and Nathan Tella combined on a quick break with the latter drilling in from a tight angle in the 83rd. RB Leipzig struck twice in two minutes late in the game to snatch a 3-1 victory over Freiburg and leapfrog Borussia Dortmund into fourth place. A 79th-minute penalty from Lois Openda and Christoph Baumgartner’s strike a minute later handed the hosts victory.
