Leeds maintained their unbeaten home Championship record this season with a pulsating 3-2 win over 10-man Middlesbrough – with all of the goals scored in the first half. Middlesbrough took the lead through a third-minute strike by Emmanuel Latte Lath but Leeds responded instantly – Dan James and Crysencio Summerville, two of the smallest players on the pitch, putting them in front with headers inside the first seven minutes. The home fans had to wait until the 38th minute for a third which came via Joel Piroe’s penalty. Boro had time to score a second before the break, with Latte Lath heading in from a corner, but the visitors had Anfernee Dijksteel sent off for a second yellow card just after the hour. It was a seventh consecutive home win for the hosts. Ipswich maintained their impressive home league record with a 2-1 victory over Coventry. George Hirst scored in the opening minutes and Wes Burns’ brilliant strike put the hosts 2-0 ahead at half-time. The visitors claimed a late consolation goal when Brandon Williams headed the ball into his own net. It was the Tractor Boys’ ninth win in 10 home games and their second three-point haul in four days, maintaining their seven-point cushion over third-placed Leeds and keeping them within a point of leaders Leicester, who beat West Brom 2-1. Wesley Hoedt’s stunning long-range winner maintained Watford’s promising run of form with a 2-1 victory at Hull. The Hornets captain stole possession from Liam Delap just inside Hull’s half on 74 minutes, executed a perfect lob over Ryan Allsop, then ran the length of the pitch to celebrate with the away fans. Liam Rosenior’s men had the better chances and opened the scoring after eight minutes through Edo Kayembe. But Scott Twine equalised two minutes later. Jack Clarke’s penalty denied Joe Edwards his first home win as Millwall manager and rescued a 1-1 draw for Sunderland at The Den. Kevin Nisbet gave the hosts a deserved lead after an energetic first half, but Clarke levelled from the penalty spot with 12 minutes left. Bottom club Sheffield Wednesday recorded just their second win of the season as they beat Blackburn 3-1 at Hillsborough. Bailey Cadamarteri – son of the former Everton and Sheffield United striker Danny – Marvin Johnson and Josh Windass were on target as the hosts ended the four-match winless run they had endured since they broke their duck against Rotherham in late October. The in-form Sammie Szmodics had equalised for the visitors. Adam Armstrong’s double fired Southampton to a 2-0 victory over Cardiff, sealing their longest unbeaten run for 19 seasons. Armstrong curled and headed in his 11th and 12th goals of the season to stay on the heels of Blackburn’s Szmodics in the race for the division’s Golden Boot. Saints stay fourth but the 11 matches they are now without defeat has equalled the number they went unbeaten between December 1994 and February 1995 – though that run contained nine draws, in contrast to the eight wins in the current sequence. Charlie Patino’s injury-time equaliser earned Swansea a late 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Huddersfield. The Terriers looked on course for back-to-back wins for the first time under Darren Moore after defender Ben Cabango turned into his own net from Jaheim Headley’s cross in the third minute. Plymouth’s homegrown midfielder Adam Randell scored a last-minute winner as Argyle came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Stoke at Home Park. Randell hammered the ball home after Stoke cleared Luke Cundle’s attempt off the line in a goalmouth scramble caused by substitute Callum Wright’s cross from the left in the seventh minute of stoppage time. Stoke had gone in front through Tyrese Campbell but Mustapha Bundu levelled just before half-time before Randell’s late show lifted Plymouth above Stoke up to 16th in the table. Birmingham failed to make it back-to-back home victories as managerless Rotherham earned a rare away point in an uneventful 0-0 draw at St Andrew’s. It was just a second point away from home this season for Rotherham, and increased the scrutiny on home manager Wayne Rooney, who has just one win in his first eight games in charge of the Midlands club. Minority owner Tom Brady was in the stands.
