Southampton moved level on points with Leeds in fourth following a routine 4-0 home win over 10-man Blackburn. Samuel Edozie made it two goals in four days just before half-time to put the Saints in control. Callum Brittain was sent off in the 55th minute for his second bookable offence before Stuart Armstrong doubled their advantage. Saints had the luxury of Carlos Alcaraz missing a late penalty before Sékou Mara and Alcaraz sealed all three points in stoppage time and extended Southampton’s unbeaten league run to 14 games. Hull climbed up to fifth after a 3-0 victory at home to Cardiff. Aaron Connolly put Liam Rosenior’s side into the first-half lead, with Scott Twine and Ozan Tufan adding to the scoreline in the second half. Hull’s gain was Sunderland’s pain following the Black Cats’ 1-0 loss at Bristol City. Tommy Conway’s first-half penalty proved enough for the Robins to seal all three points, with Sunderland dropping down to seventh. Sheffield Wednesday boosted their survival hopes with a late 2-1 comeback victory against QPR. The visitors looked set to climb out of the bottom three themselves thanks to Bambo Diaby’s first-half own goal. However, Bailey Cadamarteri struck four minutes from time before Anthony Musaba hit the winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Huddersfield’s Delano Burgzorg kept his cool to score a penalty in the seventh minute of stoppage time to nick a 1-1 draw at Millwall. Brooke Norton-Cuffy scored in the 57th minute and that looked like sealing all three points before the Dutchman’s late intervention. Watford surged into playoff contention with a brilliant 5-1 success at Preston. Will Keane put Preston in front before the Hornets fired back through a brace from Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Matheus Martins, Edo Kayembe and Ismaël Koné. Plymouth struck a winner in the sixth minute of stoppage time to secure a 3-2 victory against 10-man Rotherham. Jamie Lindsay put the Millers in front before Finn Azaz scored either side of the break for Plymouth. Daniel Ayala was sent off for two bookable offences before Tom Eaves levelled with 13 minutes remaining, only to suffer late heartbreak. Elsewhere, Middlesbrough ended their three-match losing streak with a 2-1 win at Swansea. Sam Greenwood put the visitors into an early lead before Jamal Lowe levelled just before the hour mark. Sam Silvera won it with 12 minutes left for Boro.
