Rapid Response Laboratory inaugurated at Weqaya

Saudi Arabia’s Health Minister Fahad Al-Jalajel inaugurated the Rapid Response Laboratory at the Saudi Public Health Authority (Weqaya). The minister, who is also Weqaya’s chairman of the Board of Directors, inaugurated the laboratory that aims to contribute in enhancing health security, activate rapid response in cases of epidemics and pandemics, in addition to localizing vital technologies. This is part of the health system’s efforts aimed at facilitating access to and developing health services, as well as contributing to achieving the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program. The objectives are to reach a vibrant society and a comprehensive, effective and integrated health system, based on the health of the individual and society, in accordance with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The laboratory will operate with modern mechanisms and a high capacity for laboratory tests, with an operating model that ensures sustainability and operational efficiency. It will also be distinguished by the fact that it will be able to identify pathogens quickly and accurately to contribute to increasing preparedness to respond to biological emergencies. Furthermore, the laboratory works by integrating a group of advanced laboratory operations to achieve a high level of readiness, including genetic sequencing and the development of diagnostic tests, through the use of advanced technology in the field of laboratories. The laboratory contributes in enhancing prevention against health risks and raising the rate of health preparedness. This comes to contribute in achieving one of the strategic goals in the Health Sector Transformation Program in the public health field, in order to contribute in achieving the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. It is noteworthy that the Rapid Response Laboratory is considered as an important addition that contributes to raising the national competencies and capabilities necessary to carry out all laboratory operations in the field of public health.
