The Ministry of Culture, in partnership with the Saudi Coffee Company, a Public Investment Fund (PIF) subsidiary, has completed the evaluation of submissions for the Saudi Coffee Research grant. This initiative, part of the broader "2022, The Year of Saudi Coffee" campaign, is designed to enhance research on Saudi coffee as an integral part of the nation"s intangible cultural heritage. The grant focuses on the development of the coffee industry as a key element of national culture. It aims to attract researchers and experts from various disciplines to study different aspects of coffee, from its history and manufacturing to its cultural significance in the Kingdom. Out of the numerous proposals received, the Ministry has selected 20 research titles from both within the Kingdom and internationally. These chosen researchers will receive financial support and academic guidance throughout their research journey, culminating in the publication of scientific papers. The research grant encompasses three main areas: investigating the history, production, and spread of coffee in the Arabian Peninsula; examining the intangible cultural heritage associated with Saudi coffee, including knowledge, skills, social practices, and cultural crafts. It also includes strengthening local content by enhancing the competitiveness of Saudi coffee and contributing to the transformation of the Saudi economy into a sustainable model. This grant is a key component of the "2022, The Year of Saudi Coffee" initiative, supported by the Quality of Life Program under Saudi Vision 2030. In collaboration with the Culinary Arts Commission, the initiative seeks to study the Saudi coffee market, preserve national cultural heritage and values, emphasize the cultural importance of Saudi coffee, promote national identity, and aid in the global spread of Saudi coffee culture.
