A 41-year-old woman charged with the murder of her four-year-old son has appeared in court. Police were called to an address in Montague Road, Hackney, east London, at about 11pm on Wednesday after concerns about the welfare of a child. When officers entered the home, they found four-year-old Kobi Dooley-Macharia with knife injuries and arrested his mother, Keziah Macharia. The boy was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries. Macharia appeared in custody at Thames magistrates court on Friday. On Thursday, DCS James Conway, of the Metropolitan police, said: “This is an extremely distressing incident which will understandably cause shock and disbelief amongst the local community and those who attended the scene. We are working with our partners, including Hackney council and the school community, to ensure support is there for people who need it.” He added: “This incident occurred within the home and, while there is no wider public safety risk, additional officers will be present in the area as we recognise the impact this will have on the community.” A postmortem will take place on Thursday 28 December. Macharia is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey in London on the same day.
