Princess Diana’s gown by Moroccan-British designer sells for $1.1m

DUBAI: A gown created by Moroccan-British designer Jacques Azagury and worn by the late Princess Diana has sold at auction for $1.1 million, more than 11 times its estimate. It is now the most expensive sale of a dress worn by the late British royal, according to Julien’s Auctions. Princess Diana first wore the dress to a dinner at Palazzo Vecchio in Florence in 1985. She donned it again in 1986 at a performance by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Azagury"s website describes the relationship between the designer and the princess, saying: “Jacques first met Diana Princess Of Wales in 1987 and held a very special relationship with the Princess and carried on dressing her until 1997.” The auction was part of a four-day Hollywood Legends sale by Julien"s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies.
