Two men and two women have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing in central London in the early hours of Boxing Day. Police and paramedics were called at about 3.10am on Tuesday to reports of a stabbing in Cranwood Street in Shoreditch, near Old Street underground station. A 49-year-old man was treated for stab wounds but died of his injuries. Four people, two men aged 49 and 42 and two women aged 35 and 44, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remained in custody at midday on Tuesday. The Metropolitan police said the murder inquiry is continuing as family liaison officers contact the victim’s next of kin. It was the third fatal stabbing in the capital in a week. In an unrelated incident on Christmas Day police arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder after a woman was stabbed to death in Bermondsey, south London, on Christmas Eve. Police were called shortly after 10pm to reports of a 22-year-old woman with a stab injury at a residential property in Spenlow House on Jamaica Road. Paramedics from the London ambulance service and London’s air ambulance provided the victim with emergency first aid, but she died at the scene. Her family have been informed. In a statement, the Met said urgent inquiries were being carried out and that the 16-year-old boy, who was known to the victim, was arrested nearby a short time later on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at a south London police station. In another unrelated incident, a 22-year-old man has been arrested after the fatal stabbing of Michael Peixoto, 27, in Croydon on 19 December. The man was arrested on Christmas Eve. Police have a warrant to hold him in detention until Wednesday morning.
