RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Tuesday expressed sincere condolences and sympathy to Japan and its people, following a New Year’s Day earthquake that killed at least 50 people and caused widespread destruction. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the “Kingdom’s solidarity and stand with the government and people of Japan as a result of this painful tragedy, and its sincere wishes for a speedy recovery ahead to all those affected,” it said in a statement. The 7.5 magnitude quake that rattled Ishikawa prefecture on the main island of Honshu triggered tsunami waves more than a meter high, sparked a major fire and tore apart roads. #Statement | The Foreign Ministry expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s sincere condolences and sympathy to Japan and its people, as a result of the earthquake that struck the country. pic.twitter.com/RgoIIJBOSN — Foreign Ministry (@KSAmofaEN) January 2, 2024 (With AFP)
