RIYADH: The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen and the Yemeni Selah Foundation for Development signed an agreement to launch a renewable water security project in Aden. It will benefit about 800,000 people in the Yemeni city. Hassan Al-Attas, assistant general supervisor of the SDRPY, and Ali Hassan Bashmakh, executive director of the SFD, signed the agreement on Wednesday. The project will improve the city’s water security through drilling and equipping 10 wells in the Ahmed well field, which will be supplied by a new 600-kilowatt solar power station. Through the solar power supply, the SDRPY and SFD aim to reduce the cost of water for Aden residents. Training activities will also take place to enable local technicians to operate the solar power station. Water production capacity is expected to rise by 36 percent as a result of the project. Projects launched by the SDRPY to improve quality of life in Yemen through renewable energy have been launched in five governorates: Hadramout, Abyan, Lahj, Hodeidah and Taiz. More than 62,000 people have benefited. The SDRPY has also supported 229 development projects in Yemen across eight sectors, including education, health, water, transportation and agriculture.
