During the two-day trip at the invitation of Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the crown prince was scheduled to hold meetings with the city state’s top officials, including the PM, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, and National Security Coordinating Minister Teo Chee Hean, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. Accompanied by Princess Rajwa and a Jordanian ministerial delegation comprising Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi, Digital Economy Minister Ahmad Al-Hanandeh, and Planning and International Cooperation Minister Zeina Toukan, the crown prince will also meet Singaporean academics. “Crown Prince Al-Hussein will visit the Institute of Technical Education and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy to discuss cooperation in human capital development,” the ministry added. Jordan’s Royal Hashemite Court said ahead of the visit that the crown prince would meet Singaporean business leaders and attend the launch of a joint Jordan-Singapore forum on information and communications technology. It is the Jordanian royal couple’s first official trip abroad since their wedding in June. “The visit holds considerable symbolic importance as it marks a pivotal step in the crown prince’s preparation for more substantive diplomatic engagements, ultimately positioning him for ascension to rulership in due course,” Rizwan Rafi Togoo, an analyst and researcher in Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian affairs, told Arab News. “The Southeast Asian region, with particular emphasis on Singapore, assumes a critical role in Jordan’s future foreign policy considerations. This pertains notably to the attraction of foreign investments, advancements in education, and other strategic aspects vital to the nation’s development.” Jordan-Singapore diplomatic relations were established in 1988, and both opened their diplomatic missions in 2018.
