A 37-year-old man accused of murdering his wife on New Year’s Day has appeared in court. Keotshepile Naso Isaacs, known as Naso, was found dead at a property in the Scottish seaside town of North Berwick on 1 January. Her husband, Mompati Dodo Isaacs, entered no plea to the charge of murder at Edinburgh sheriff court on Friday afternoon. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in court again in the next eight days. At 8.20am on New Year’s Day, police were called to a property on Craigleith Avenue in North Berwick after a “report of concern”. Emergency services pronounced Naso dead at the scene. Mompati Dodo Isaacs was arrested in connection with his wife’s death on 2 January. Originally from Otse, a village in south-east Botswana, Naso Isaacs is understood to have three sons and had been living in the UK since last year. A neighbour told the Sun: “This kind of tragedy never happens in North Berwick – it’s shaken the whole town. “The police arrived here on New Year’s morning and they haven’t been away since. She was a loving mum to her boys, who must be absolutely devastated.” Friends from Botswana paid tribute on social media after the death was reported in local media. Bambi Motsomatshukudu wrote: “Let us let Naso Isaacs’s beautiful soul rest as we all find comfort in the Lord.” Buciecieweh Boitshepho Thabangana added: “It is painful. May your beautiful soul rest home girl.” Police Scotland said: “Around 8.20am on Monday 1 January 2024, police were called to a property in Craigleith Avenue, North Berwick, following a report of concern.
