RIYADH — The President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, affirmed his commitment to peace since the first day of the Council"s formation. During a meeting with Jameel Al-Theyabi, the Editor-in-Chief of Okaz newspaper in Riyadh on Wednesday, he expressed his preparedness for peace, driven not by weakness but by a sense of moral and constitutional responsibility towards the Yemeni people, who have been set back centuries by the ongoing war. Dr. Al-Alimi discussed the latest developments in Yemen, particularly the efforts led by the United Nations for peace, based on the commendable initiatives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia aimed at ending the suffering of the Yemeni people and achieving their aspirations for security, stability, and development. The Yemeni President highlighted the dire situations created by the Houthi militia"s war and their failed attempts to impose their exclusionary and regressive administration. He praised the Kingdom"s foresight in proposing a plan for peaceful transition under the Gulf Initiative, a vision that predated the militia"s choice of war and coup against national consensus and state institutions. Dr. Al-Alimi added that Saudi Arabia is once again proposing a new peace initiative and roadmap, prioritizing the interests of the Yemeni people. He expressed hope that the Houthi militias would respond to these efforts and take practical steps to alleviate suffering and restore Yemen"s status in its Gulf, regional, and international surroundings. He confirmed that the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council and the legitimate government have positively engaged with the efforts of Saudi Arabia and remain open to the initiatives of the UN Special Envoy, as peace is in the best interest of the Yemeni people. Dr. Al-Alimi expressed profound appreciation for the efforts and honorable positions of Saudi Arabia, led by King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in supporting the Yemeni people under various circumstances.
