Winner of season-opener in Mexico says he has to be ‘faultless’ to repeat last year’s success RIYADH: Formula E driver Pascal Wehrlein is relishing the opportunity to race in Diriyah next weekend and said he needs to be “faultless” to repeat last year’s success in Riyadh. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport The Porsche driver goes into rounds two and three on Jan. 26 and 27 on a winning note following his triumph in Mexico in the season-opener. Last season, the German reigned supreme in both races and is aware he faces a stern challenge this year. He said: “It’s the biggest pressure I put on myself as I want to win and I want to be faultless. All the drivers want to win and work hard and we are going to Diriyah with a lot of confidence. Mexico was strong but we need to be 100 percent prepared and ready. I still need to do the job and hopefully we can have a strong weekend in Diriyah.” The Riyadh races are the first of the double-headers this season and are the only night races on the calendar. He added: “Riyadh is a special track and we are racing at night and this is one of the biggest differences as it’s a typical Formula E street circuit. The conditions in Riyadh are a bit special as there’s sand on the track but over time, it gradually goes meaning the lap times are a lot faster. It’s going to be tough but we will be ready.” Rounds two and three take place on a street circuit surrounding the UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the most picturesque locations on the 16-race calendar. Ahead of the races, ticketholders can enjoy a day of entertainment for the whole family in the Allianz Fan Village, including racing simulators in the gaming arena, live music and street food.
