West Ham are pushing to complete a loan deal for Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips and are hopeful of signing the midfielder this week. David Moyes has long been an admirer of Phillips and there is growing confidence that an agreement will be reached to take the City outcast to the London Stadium. However an agreement has not been reached and the deal depends on City’s budging on their demands. Talks have centred on the size of the loan fee for the England international. City have demanded £7m for Phillips, who earns around £140,000 a week, meaning that any club who takes him will be making a huge financial commitment for less than half a season’s football. West Ham are looking for a compromise on the fee and are working to seal the deal. An agreement has not been reached and there is other interest in Phillips. Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Fulham have looked at the former Leeds player, while Juventus could make a late move for him. In West Ham’s favour is that Phillips is open to joining them. Moyes tried to sign him from Leeds two years ago. City ended up signing Phillips for £42m in the summer of 2022 but the move has not worked out. Phillips has not started a premier league game this season and needs regular football to ensure he earns a spot in England’s squad for Euro 2024.
