Both countries agreed to enhance cooperation in several areas, including the oil and gas sectors and clean technologies for hydrocarbon resources RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have stressed the need for all OPEC+ countries to adhere to the alliance in a way that serves producers and consumers and supports the growth of the global economy. The remarks were part of a joint statement issued following a meeting between King Salman and Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Riyadh on Tuesday. The Kuwaiti emir also held talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Saudi crown prince said he appreciated the Kuwaiti leadership’s support. Leaders of both countries agreed to enhance cooperation in several areas, including the oil and gas sectors and clean technologies for hydrocarbon resources. They agreed to develop related projects in a way that contributes to the sustainability of demand for global energy supplies. The two sides welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the field of cybersecurity and stressed the importance of continuing to strengthen cooperation in this field. They underscored the importance of collaborating in the field of hydrogen, including developing technologies for its transportation and storage, and expressed commitment to exchanging expertise and implementing best practices in the hydrogen sector. They expressed their intent to maximize the utilization of local content in energy sector projects and emphasized the importance of cooperation to stimulate innovation and the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, in the sector. They highlighted the need to create an environment that supports and fosters innovation in this field. Saudi Arabia and Kuwait also agreed to intensify cooperation to reach industrial integration in priority sectors, and to explore ways for financial institutions in the two countries to coordinate in providing credit facilities for non-oil goods and products to boost trade, the Saudi Press Agency reported. According to the joint statement, the two parties expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization and Kuwait’s Public Authority for Industry. SPA reported that the two countries also urged Iraq to adhere to the agreement regulating navigation through the Khor Abdullah waterway, which was signed by Kuwait and Iraq on April 29, 2012, and came into effect on Dec. 5, 2013. Regarding climate change, the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation on international climate policies and emphasized the importance of shifting the focus to emissions by adopting a circular carbon economy that involves transporting, utilizing, and storing carbon. Both leaders praised the signing of a railway link project that will connect the Kingdom’s capital to Kuwait. Sheikh Mishal also congratulated the Saudi leadership on Riyadh’s selection as host of the 2030 World Expo, as well as the Kingdom’s candidacy to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
