DUBAI: Fashion label Selfmade, by Serbia-born designer Emina Skrijelj Sabutay, presented its Fall/ Winter 2024-25 collection at Dubai Fashion Week (DFW) on Tuesday night. For the latest updates, follow us on Instagram @arabnews.lifestyle There was a striking display of edgy and daring streetwear on the runway, including body-shaping silhouettes, hoods and layered looks. The designer, who is of Bosnak Albanian descent, showed off a collection that featured a palette of blue hues — including denim and washed denim — as well as shades of grey and black. The designer’s grasp of textiles — she studied fabric and design in Turkey before launching her label — shone through in her utilization of custom-designed fabrics, incorporated into asymmetrical designs featuring strategically placed cutouts. Sabutay’s technical aptitude for denim washing was apparent across the collection of daily streetwear, with cropped, gradient-colored denim jackets blending into bold block colors, asymmetrically cut baggy denim pants, and oversized suits layered over hoodies. Other labels that staged runway presentations on Tuesday night included Choice, Riva and Dubai-based, celebrity-loved designer Michael Cinco. Cinco’s latest collection of menswear and womenswear saw fabrics blended, printed, layered, pleated, and adorned with intricate embroidery. Delicate blue-to-grey hues transitioned into deep blacks, as well as vibrant hues of violet, aquatic blue and scarlet red. Meanwhile, Riva launched its Ramadan 2024 collection, featuring light linen pieces contrasting with sheer, intricately printed organza ensembles. Choice celebrated its silver jubilee anniversary on the runway by unveiling its “Flower Bloom” collection. The show featured feminine silhouettes crafted from luxurious materials such as organza, gazar, silk, and tweed embroidered with sequins. DFW, Dubai’s official fashion week co-founded by Dubai Design District (d3) and the Arab Fashion Council, runs until Feb. 8. The third edition aims to strengthen global visibility and attendance and attract more global buyers and industry experts. In a previously released statement, Mohammed Aqra, chief strategy officer of the Arab Fashion Council, said: “By shifting the dates, we position ourselves strategically before New York Fashion Week, creating an optimal window for global visibility and buyers attendance, and we assure that we will re-meet the global buyers and industry experts again at the end of the season in Paris.”
