Al-Hilal’s Brazilian international defender Lodi posted on his Instagram story a photo showing him on the pitch alongside his compatriot attacking midfielder Talisca during their Riyadh Season Cup match on Thursday. When checked by Arab News, Lodi’s official Instagram still showed the controversial picture in which Talisca’s face was covered with a clown emoji. Al-Hilal beat Al-Nassr 2-0 in Thursday’s game. Saudi and Arab press outlets reported on Friday that the purportedly controversial post triggered social media uproar that surfaced after the match. Many Internet users cried foul against Al-Hilal’s player, whom they criticized for “mocking” Talicsa. Saudi sports journalist Abdul Aziz Almriseul posted on X platform that Al-Nassr Club are considering forwarding the Instagram post to the disciplinary and ethics committee of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. Some news reports cited Lodi as saying: “My dispute with Talisca was only on the field, and the matter ended completely immediately after the match. I am looking forward, at the actual time, to being present in official games during the coming period.” Meanwhile, lawyer Khaled Al-Shaalan posted on X platform that according to Saudi laws and regulations in sports, the disciplinary and ethics committee could independently intervene and initiate the required action against Lodi. He added that Talisca and/or Al-Nasr club could file an official complaint against Al-Hilal’s defender. “The player could be fined up to 40,000 Saudi riyal,” Al-Shaalan said.
