DUBAI: Model Halima Aden made a fashion statement at New York Fashion Week this week, from attending shows to walking runways. For the latest updates, follow us on Instagram @arabnews.lifestyle She attended the Carolina Herrera show, held on the 40th floor of a downtown skyscraper, where 360-degree views of Manhattan served as the backdrop for the Fall/Winter collection. Aden chose a vibrant pink suit ensemble, comprising a straight skirt paired with a button-down blazer boasting puffy sleeves. To complement her outfit, she accessorized with a gold clutch that matched with her headscarf and black heels adorned with gold detailing. The US Somali model took to Instagram to share pictures from the show, including one featuring British editor Anna Wintour. “Had a wonderful time attending @carolinaherrera fashion show today! Always a pleasure seeing the wonderful Anna Wintour,” she captioned her post. The collection celebrated the beauty of pink peonies, with vibrant prints and intricate embroidery on show. Peonies made several appearances on the catwalk. An A-line grey wool collarless coat had pink peonies of varying sizes splashed over it, while a shorter white wool cape was adorned with similar detailed pink and yellow peony embroidering. The label’s creative director Wes Gordon said he saw the flower — one of his favorites — on an art piece and wanted to translate it to his designs. “Beauty and elegance are about the details, and we need more beautiful details in the world,” Gordon told The Associated Press after the show. “The prints this season were based on a 19th century gouache painting of a pink peony that I found. I rendered it on chiffons in a quite small scale ... then I exploded it on a ball skirt … working with our embroiderers who just rendered that painting in individual rows of thread,” Gordon said. Diane Kruger sat in the front row with Demi Moore, Anna Wintour, Becky G, Misty Copeland and Julianne Hough. Kruger said she’s always appreciated the label’s “true American fashion” and called the clothes “very wearable.” Meanwhile, Aden walked the runway at the Sergio Hudson show. She donned tailored plaid pants and a brown coat, accentuated by a black undershirt.
