DUBAI:US Palestinian beauty moguls Simi and Haze Khadra celebrated their birthday with a call for donations to Gaza. For the latest updates, follow us on Instagram @arabnews.lifestyle The twins — who are often spotted alongside the likes of Kylie and Kendall Jenner as well as Canadian musician The Weeknd — took to Instagram to thank fans for their birthday wishes. “Thank you for all the sweet birthday messages. Feeling all the love and radiating it all back to you. All we want for our (birthday) is for you to help us build a NICU for the babies in Rafah,” the sisters posted. “Many premature babies in Gaza are in dire need of help as a result of the ongoing blockade by Israel. Newborns share incubators as supplies run low at the few swamped remaining hospitals that have not been attacked. @heal.palestine is actively working on building a new NICU in Rafah while supporting the only other existing NICU at the Emirati Hospital by providing medication and all the other supplies to help give premature babies the care they need,” the sisters posted on Instagram earlier this week, referring to US-based nonprofit organization Heal Palestine. “Although there is a blockade on medical supplies, aid for this NICU project is brought in through the border by doctors on missions who are part of the Heal health advisory board. We would love your help in helping raise money to get these babies the care they need to survive,” they added. The pair have been vocal about the conflict in Gaza, posting frequently on their social media platforms as well as hosting video discussions on YouTube on various aspects of Israeli-Palestinian politics. It is not the first time they have called for donations to be made to those in need in Gaza. In 2021, the sisters teamed up with the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) in an effort to bring solar power to central Gaza. The Los Angeles-based identical twins hoped to provide electricity by installing solar panels in the homes of families with chronically sick children who rely on electricity for ventilation, blended food and mechanical medical equipment. The sisters founded their eponymous label SimiHaze Beauty in 2021 and teased a partnership with French multinational retailer Sephora on their joint Instagram account in March. “This year, coming to you guys,” the duo wrote, snapping a picture at the Sephora Middle East office in Dubai last month. The twins added the Saudi, UAE, Qatar and Bahraini flags to the picture, hinting that their products will be available at Sephora stores in these countries. The beauty entrepreneurs and DJs grew up between Riyadh, Dubai and London.
