Call for international community to assume role in ensuring delivery of humanitarian aid The parties warned against the grave and severe consequences of any military operation in the Palestinian city of Rafah CAIRO: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah, in a meeting in Amman on Tuesday, reiterated the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, given the humanitarian catastrophe, starvation, and devastation of livelihoods in the besieged region. Presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said the two leaders spoke of the close relations between the two countries at all levels, emphasizing mutual commitment to further advancing and strengthening cooperation in all domains. There was also an alignment of views in regard to the importance of continuing coordination and consultations on developments in regional and international issues, including the situation in the Gaza Strip. The parties warned against the grave and severe consequences of any military operation in the Palestinian city of Rafah. They called on the international community to assume its role in ensuring the unfettered delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid into the sector to provide relief to those affected. El-Sisi and King Abdullah reaffirmed their opposition to the displacement of Palestinians outside the territories, and their commitment to the two-state solution — which envisages the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state based on June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital — as the basis for a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue.
