Al-Nassr manage narrow win over Damac but remain 12 points behind leaders Al-Hilal continued their unstoppable match toward the Saudi pro league title with a convincing 4-1 win at Al-Khaleej on Friday night to extend their world record-winning streak to 32 matches and maintain a 12-point gap to second-place Al-Nassr, who managed a last-gasp 1-0 win at Damac. With only seven rounds of the SPL season left, the leaders could wrap up the title mathematically on match day 31, on May 9, at home against Al-Hazem, should they keep their remarkable winning run going. It did not take Al-Hilal long to stamp their superiority over Khaleej in the 27th round of the league season, taking the lead through Saudi international forward Saleh Al-Shehri after only seven minutes. The leaders suffered a minor shock when Mohamed Sherif equalized only two minutes later, but unsurprisingly Al-Hilal retook the lead three minutes before the break through Malcom. The Brazilian put any doubts about the outcome to bed only three minutes into the second half with his second strike of the match, before Abdullah Al-Hamdan scored with a stoppage-time penalty. Meanwhile, second-place Al-Nassr needed a towering 91st minute header by Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte to secure a hard-fought win over Damac at Sultan bin Abdulaziz Stadium, and reigning champions Ittihad could only manage 0-0 draw at home against Al-Taawoun. Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad, as well as Al-Wehda, will now head to Abu Dhabi for the Saudi Super Cup, which will take place on April 8-11 in the UAE capital.
