Riyadh: Jeddah’s historic Al-Balad has welcomed 2.5 million visitors with effective crowd management and service plans during Ramadan. The area, also known as Jeddah Historic District, has become a sustainable urban model, with a secure, organized, and easily navigable environment, the Saudi Press Agency reported. More than 830 dedicated employees worked over 250,000 hours to maintain cleanliness and hospitality during this period. Workers employed over 600 cleaning machines and tools, along with 16,000 liters of eco-friendly chemicals. Hygiene measures extended to public restrooms, averaging 5,000 users daily, where water consumption was carefully managed. Authorities highlighted waste management as a priority, with over 1,900 tons collected and treated, including 70 tons of cardboard boxes. For safety, 1,000 security personnel guarded the district, with eight rapid response teams and six ambulances on standby, SPA reported. Additionally, 350 crowd-control organizers managed visitor flow at 14 locations. To enhance accessibility, 70 golf carts facilitated transportation to and from parking areas. Jeddah Historic District is undergoing a comprehensive revitalization program, which includes infrastructure enhancements, building restoration, and a dynamic calendar of cultural events. The goal is to establish the district as a hub for businesses, cultural initiatives, and entrepreneurs, enhancing its status as an inviting destination for visitors.
